Classroom use
The HPC cluster is available for classroom and instructional use.
Support offered for classroom use#
- RCC staff will provision a number of accounts for the course; i.e.,
classroom_[###]
-classroom_[###]
, and send the lead instructor the usernames and passwords - The instructor will need to possess or activate a normal RCC user account
- RCC staff will install any software packages that you need to use for teaching as long as they are fairly straightforward to install1
- The instructor or department will need to supply any necessary licenses for commercial software
- RCC staff will provide basic assistance with HPC commands and utilities
- RCC staff will provision a storage volume in the
/gpfs/research
directory of at least 500GB (larger storage allocations will need justification)
What classroom accounts have access to#
Classroom accounts have access to almost everything a normal RCC user account provides, including:
- SSH access to the cluster
- Open OnDemand access to the cluster
- Home directories with the default storage allocation
How to apply#
Instructors wishing to use the HPC for teaching should submit a support case with the following details:
- The course number and semester
- How many user accounts you need (be sure to account for TAs)
- A date that we can reset and reallocate the accounts
- How the HPC integrates into your curriculum
- Whether you need the data archived after the course is complete
- Special resources or considerations (e.g. GPUs)
